Gerry`s acquires Biman Bangladesh Airlines GSA for Passenger and Cargo
August, 2013Gerry`s acquires Biman Bangladesh Airlines GSA for Passenger and Cargo for Karachi on 16th July 2013. The agreement was signed by Mr. Arshad Wali Mohammad (Group Director) from Gerry`s and Mr. Muhammad Shah Newaz (Director marketing and Sales BG) from Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
Gerry`s has the distinction of being one of the largest aviation groups in Pakistan and is now ranked as Pakistan`s largest travel, air cargo, information technology, telecommunication and aviation concern. Employing staff strength of 2000 people, Gerry`s is honored to represent a number of international airlines which include Virgin Atlantic Airways, Kenya Airways, Etihad Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Air France, Air Canada, Royal Caribbean cruises, Oman Air, Air Arabia, United Airlines and Cyprus Airways.
Gerry`s also takes pride and pleasure to represent world`s renowned all cargo airline - FedEx Inc. offering air express and cargo services. In addition to GSA representation, Gerry`s also maintains the country`s only fully privatized ground-handling operation at all the airports in Pakistan, under joint venture with DNATA, which is a part of the Emirates group. Included in the portfolio of Gerry`s is an Information Technology company which includes Gerry`s Net - an Internet Service Provider & Gerry`s DSL- Broadband operator, Gerry`s Satellite & Media- Telecom provider.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Bangladesh. Its main hub is at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka and it also operates flights from its secondary hubs Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong and Osmani International Airport in Sylhet. The airline provides international passenger and cargo services to Asia and Europe, as well as major domestic routes inside Bangladesh. It has air service agreements with 42 countries and currently flies to 16 different countries.
The airline was wholly owned and managed by the government of Bangladesh until 23 July 2007, when it was transformed into the country`s largest public limited company by the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh. The airline`s headquarters, Balaka Bhaban, is located in Kurmitola, Dhaka. Annual Hajj flights, transporting non-resident Bangladeshi workers and migrants, and the activities of its subsidiaries, form an integral part of the carrier`s business.
Created in February 1972. In the decades following its founding, the airline expanded its fleet and destinations. At its peak, Biman has operated flights to 29 international destinations, as far away as New York City to the west and Tokyo to the east. Since becoming a public limited company in 2007, the airline has begun to modernize its fleet. The airline has made a deal with Boeing for ten new aircraft, along with options for ten more.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines is certified as safe to fly in Europe by the European Aviation Safety Agency. In addition, the airline successfully passed the IATA Operational Safety Audit and since then it has been successfully flying to some of its previous destinations in Asia and Europe.
